Review: Gimmie Brownies Halloween Box

October 25, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Gimmie Brownies’ Halloween box is “sinfully delicious.” I ate all six in a day. The taste is 5/5. But the box arrived dented via Parcel Force, and the artistic toppings were squished. If I had kids, they’d be “gutted.” A 3/5 for a damaged festive treat.

Review: Mara, a stylish gastropub on The Shore

October 24, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A flexible gastropub in Leith’s competitive Shore district. Mara shines with its outdoor seating, local craft ales, and late weekend hours. The menu is strong, though some main dishes feel more like light bites. A stylish spot for discerning friends.

Review: Mother Hubbard’s, Fish and Chips at Ocean Terminal

October 21, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A practical, clean spot with room for prams, located by the Vue cinema. Sadly, the slow service is a deal-breaker if you’re in a hurry. You’ll find better, faster fish and chips on Bernard Street.

Great news for Edinburgh commuters. The Waverley Station Costa has reopened with a fresh new look, baked pastries, and is now serving coffee from 5:15am.

Review: Nobles by Bellfield, a worthy successor to Leith’s Nobles

October 19, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Bellfield takes over Leith’s iconic Nobles bar, and it’s a triumph. The stunning brass and stained-glass interior is safe, now with Bellfield’s (gluten-free!) craft beer on tap. Guest kitchen Bia provided delicious burgers on a buzzing, dog-friendly opening night.

Review: The King’s Wark, a gastropub in Leith

October 18, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Located in a building of Royal construction, The King’s Wark offers a classic gastro pub menu, featuring standout fish and chips, and relaxing window views on Leith’s famous Shore.
