This weekend will see a treat for art lovers down Leith way, as Coburg House Art Studios are set to open their doors to the public for their biannual open studios event, kicking off on Friday (31st) night from 6pm – 9pm.
The opening night will include lively music and delicious drinks from Moonwake Beer Co. and Leith Spirits, plus a first peek around at the studios. The weekend continues from 10am – 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday – and there’s something for just about everybody!
Fine art aficionados, design lovers, jewellery junkies, sculpturephiles, collectors or simply the curious are being called on to come and take a look, in a “unique chance to experience the energy and spirit of one of Edinburgh’s most beloved creative spaces”.
Founded in the early ’00s, and based in the heart of Leith, Coburg House is a beloved creative space where over 60 artists do some of their best work, so it feels quite special to be invited along.
So, what can you look forward to? Well, just to scratch the surface, there’s the atmospheric landscape paintings from Evie Rose Thornton, abstract delights from Joy Arden, surrealist and thought-provoking scenarios from David Schofield, and the playfully evocative scenes by Lynn Hanley.
More into metalwork or woodwork? There’s some fabulous sculptural works from Bryony Knox and Mette Fruergaard-Jensen.
There will also be work on display some from of Edinburgh’s incredible jewellers, including Donna Barry, Lorna Hewitt, Misun Won and Christina Hirst – not to mention bold resin jewellery from Kaz Robertson and Carla Edwards, and ceramic offerings from Beth Lamont.
Don’t believe me that there’s something for everyone yet? Well, let’s take it one step further and let me tell you about jewellers Eleanor Symms and Fiona Luing who are reusing, repurposing or recycling their materials to create totally sustainable, earth-conscious, wearable works of art.
Now, that’s got to be worth seeing. And we’ve not even got onto the fashion and textile artists yet! You’ll be able to find beautifully crafted crochet bags and plant hangers by The Unraveling, colourful woollen designs by K.Moods, data-inspired knitwear from Knot Unknot, and meticulous weaving by PickOne and Loimi & Ko.
There’s also going to be award-winning cartoonist and illustrator Jon McNaught in attendance, showcasing his printmaking, original paintings and books. Pretty cool.

If you’re at all into art, or are just looking for unusual gifts, Coburg House’s Open Studios seems to be an unmissable event this weekend – so, pop along if you’re finding yourself at a loose end. I’m already adding the opening night to my calendar!
