A guide to entertainment in Edinburgh

When it comes to entertainment in Edinburgh, we're very lucky to be spoilt for choice! Whether it's comedy, cinema, theatre, cabaret, shows, spoken word,  special events, launches and book readings, there's always something going on.

Here at Edinburgh Reviews, we can never cover everything happening around us in-depth - that's too much for us to handle - but we do cover select entertainment that catches our eye. You can also find plenty of other goings on via our social media!

You can see what's on at the Edinburgh Playhouse right here.

Review: Ari Eldjárn: Return of the Icelandic

April 27, 2024 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Ari Eldjárn’s Return of the Icelandic is funny and friendly. In the show you’ll encounter some pranks, some family truths and learn a bit about how politics works in Iceland. You’ll leave pleased you went and wondering why politics couldn’t be more like that elsewhere.

Review: Pitch Perfect with Frankie Lily at Coco Boho

April 13, 2024 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

Birdy and a couple of friends headed down to Coco Boho where they’d been invited to partake in some drinks, a good time, and ermmm… some crowd karaoke! I’d never been to Coco Boho before, so when I was offered the chance to head to Pitch Perfect with Frankie Lily – and bring my friends […]

Review: Hamilton at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre

April 8, 2024 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

Hamilton is one of my favourite musicals, but before tonight, I had never once seen it performed live. Being a big fan of the Disney+ recorded version, and a regular listener of the soundtrack, I was so ready for this show!

Review: All Who Wander an Edinburgh University Footlights performance

March 24, 2024 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

“All Who Wander” finished with a standing ovation from the crowd, and, somehow, the audience grew in number after the interval. I was there thanks to an invitation to review. I nearly didn’t make it, but I’m glad I did. While there are no more nights left for “All Who Wander,” I’m absolutely going to […]

Review: Dan Tiernan, Going Under

March 1, 2024 by Girdy & Birdy Leave a Comment

Dan Tiernan’s ‘Going Under’ is loaded with laughs and a surprising amount of empathy. Here’s a comedian with a perspective of the world that most of the audience won’t have. At the start of the gig Dan might seem very different but by the end of the gig he’ll surely seem hugely and powerfully relatable.

Review: The Rock Orchestra by Candlelight

February 4, 2024 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix 1 Comment

I wasn’t sure what to expect from The Rock Orchestra by Candlelight, but when Girdy mentioned it, I thought it sounded like a fun time. After all, I like rock music, I like classical music, and I like experiences – so why not?

Review: New Year, New Me, New World Order

January 6, 2024 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

An indie and a contemporary mixture of provocative artworks on display in a reused/upcycled ex-Civil Service monolith. “New Year, New Me, New World Order” is to be checked out and talked about. This is an exhibition you can tell friends about and pique their curiosity.
