The Renaissance—Scotland and Europe 1480 to 1630 is a free, small, and well-formed exhibition in the National Library of Scotland on George IV Bridge. It’s tactile, offering dress-up and embroidery, but the primary audience must surely be historians, geeks, and academics.

Review of Hel Cabaret: Nocturnal Rites
Birdy’s a little bit late with this review, but since the next Hel Cabaret event is now just over a month away, it’s as good a time as any to get this one out! All photos taken by Pictures in Blood.
Review: Game On at the National Museum of Scotland
At Game On at the National Museum of Scotland, you’ll find a treasure trove of over 100 playable games. Game On runs until November […]
Review: Ari Eldjárn: Return of the Icelandic
Ari Eldjárn’s Return of the Icelandic is funny and friendly. In the show you’ll encounter some pranks, some family truths and learn a bit about how politics works in Iceland. You’ll leave pleased you went and wondering why politics couldn’t be more like that elsewhere.

Review: Hamilton at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre
Hamilton is one of my favourite musicals, but before tonight, I had never once seen it performed live. Being a big fan of the Disney+ recorded version, and a regular listener of the soundtrack, I was so ready for this show!
Review: All Who Wander an Edinburgh University Footlights performance
“All Who Wander” finished with a standing ovation from the crowd, and, somehow, the audience grew in number after the interval. I was there thanks to an invitation to review. I nearly didn’t make it, but I’m glad I did. While there are no more nights left for “All Who Wander,” I’m absolutely going to […]
Review: Dan Tiernan, Going Under
Dan Tiernan’s ‘Going Under’ is loaded with laughs and a surprising amount of empathy. Here’s a comedian with a perspective of the world that most of the audience won’t have. At the start of the gig Dan might seem very different but by the end of the gig he’ll surely seem hugely and powerfully relatable.
