Review: Shalaka Kurup – Get A Grip, Fringe 2025

August 6, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Shalaka Kurup is lauded as a confident and charismatic performer whose quest to be the ‘main character’ makes for a brilliantly constructed hour of dark comedy, though its adult content comes with a warning.

Review: Jess Robinson – Your Song, Fringe 2025

August 6, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A five-star review for a high-energy, hilarious show. Jess Robinson is a phenomenal singer and impressionist who fills the prestigious Assembly stage with ease. Even if you’re not an Elton John superfan, this tribute is a must-see for its incredible talent and comedic genius.

Review: Christian Dart – Gumshoe!, Fringe 2025

August 6, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Christian Dart’s Gumshoe! is a delightful subversion of the murder mystery genre. An initially reluctant reviewer is won over by the high-energy, interactive, and charismatic performance, which trades traditional noir pacing for frenetic, clown-esque fun. A fantastic Fringe experience that will drag you along for the ride.

The Flying Bubble Show is pure magic, light, joy, and totally unique. With fairy-like charm, flying sequences, and breathtaking bubbles, it captivated both me and my 4 year-old from start to finish. A heartwarming, original experience for all ages for sure.

Beneath the mayhem lies a performer of incredible skill and a story of surprising depth. Wenker is a master of physical comedy.

Review: 1457, The Boy at Rest, Fringe 2025

August 5, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This review praises “1457, The Boy at Rest” as a powerful and polished slice of Korean history. It highlights the show’s Shakespearean qualities, the moral complexity of its villain, and the superb performances from the entire cast. The production’s beautiful music and costumes are noted, and while the show is condensed for the Fringe, it remains an absolutely enjoyable and compelling hour.

With a unique red-flag-waving format and material that is both personal and provocative, this is a bracingly direct comedy show. A quintessential Fringe hour packed with laughs, honesty, and a buzzing finale.
