Bryony Walker, Commercial Director at Walker’s Shortbread, explained the motivation behind the stunt. “The summer festivities in the capital are the beating heart of Scottish culture every August, but we know how busy navigating the city can be,” she said. “We wanted to bring a special experience and Scottish hospitality to the streets to give festival-goers a moment to refuel. For those lucky enough to flag down our ‘Magic Taxi’, magician Elliot Bibby will be on hand to deliver a private magic show alongside our delicious new Wee Chunkies shortbread, making their Fringe journey truly unforgettable.”
Bite-Sized Fringe Magic
Operating exclusively in Edinburgh City Centre on Thursday morning, the specially designated cab will be hidden among a wider fleet of Walker’s branded taxis. Members of the public can test their luck by looking out for the vehicle displaying the brand’s latest campaign image featuring brand ambassador Sir Andy Murray alongside the traditional Walker’s tartan.
The eye-catching vehicle wrap looks remarkably similar to the bold designs recently seen on Edinburgh’s trams. Eagle-eyed locals might even spot the cabs heading towards Leith for the first time since the recent Princes Street fire disruptions. Hailing this specific cab guarantees a free ride across the cobblestones, giving locals and visitors a much-needed break from navigating the festival crowds while enjoying world-class Fringe entertainment in transit.
Edinburgh City Centre remains exceptionally busy throughout August, so planning your transport and meals is essential. If you are travelling from outside the city, rail networks are often the most efficient way to Waverley. For those planning to explore the Lothians or beyond, hiring a vehicle or joining a bus tour provides flexibility away from the festival crowds. Finding a quiet place to eat can be challenging, so arranging local restaurant deliveries to your rented accommodation or a quiet park bench is a practical alternative.
