Eat your fill with food and drink in Edinburgh

Ah, a favourite subject of ours! When it comes to food and drink in Edinburgh, the city is just brimming with restaurants, cafes, bistros, gastro pubs, pizzerias, chippies and just about everything else to tickle your fancy.

If you're looking to dine out, Girdy & Birdy are gradually eating their way through the 'Burgh and updating their restaurant experiences regularly, both on the blog, and - more frequently - through social media.

You don't even have to eat out, either! You can order in, with many delivery services (such as JustEat, Deliveroo and UberEats) happy to bring exactly what you want straight to your door. Food and drink in Edinburgh is always a delight!

Edinburgh charts in the Gin O’Clock league table

October 16, 2018 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Is it gin o’clock yet? Gin’s popular in Edinburgh and this is perhaps due to local success stories like Edinburgh Gin, Pickering’s Gin and Leith Gin (parent company Gleann More Spirits is based in Edinburgh). Now research from Pulsar shows us just how popular this clear juniper berry booze has become. Pulsar helps marketers make […]

A review of Wahaca, City Centre

May 29, 2017 by Andrew Girdwood 9 Comments

Wahaca had a lot to live up to. I’m a big fan of Mexican food and had only heard great things about this restaurant. You can book online but only for tomorrow or afterwards, this was an impulse decision and so we hopped into a taxi to see what the South St Andrew Street restaurant […]

A review of Noughts & Coffees, City Centre

December 14, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is a trend I welcome; board games are popular again. The return of board games somehow happened while missing the hipster trap and becoming an accepted mainstream thing. If you don’t believe me, then you only need to start counting the number of gaming cafes that are popping up across the country. Edinburgh has […]

Grand Opening: The Refinery, City Centre

November 29, 2016 by Guest Reviewer Leave a Comment

Edinburgh Reviews’ Caroline was lucky enough to attend the opening of The Refinery on St Andrew Square. Here’s the field report from the night. On Thursday we were invited to the opening of Edinburgh’s newest restaurant, The Refinery at St Andrew Square which is part of the trendy Drake & Morgan brand. Having been to […]

A review of Mum’s Great Comfort Food, City Centre

June 17, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I first experienced Mum’s Great Comfort Food at a place called Monster Mash on Forrest Road. I think there was some drama around the name and now the venue is called Mum’s Great Comfort Food. The concept is the same; mash potatoes! The menu is straight forward. You partner up a pair of sausages with […]

8 tempting bakeries and chocolatiers on Deliveroo Edinburgh

March 15, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Warning. This post may be bad for you. It may be indulgent wish fulfilment or it may be very frustrating if you discover none of these tempting bakeries or chocolatiers are within your Deliveroo delivery range. At the time of writing there are 8 venues on Deliveroo that’ll send you desserts, cakes, cheesecakes, donuts and […]

A review of Strumpets, West End

February 22, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I really wanted to find a cosy coffee shop that could feed me tasty cake. The weather was awful, wind and rain was whipping Edinburgh into a bleak misery and I had been outside for too long. The West End had a few places to pop into but I felt as if I deserved a […]

A review of Wagamama, Deliveroo

February 14, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Have you tried Deliveroo yet? I think it’s a great service. They’ll go get food that’s available on takeout from restaurants without a delivery service. If you use a service like JustEat you’re going to a restaurant with its own delivery driver and just using the JustEat system to make the order. Deliveroo as the […]
