Edinburgh charts in the Gin O’Clock league table

October 16, 2018 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Is it gin o’clock yet?

Gin’s popular in Edinburgh and this is perhaps due to local success stories like Edinburgh Gin, Pickering’s Gin and Leith Gin (parent company Gleann More Spirits is based in Edinburgh). Now research from Pulsar shows us just how popular this clear juniper berry booze has become.

Pulsar helps marketers make sense out what people are talking about on social media and pointed their technology at Twitter to monitor gin chat. You won’t be surprised to discover that 47% of conversions about gin begin from London. The city is huge. However, according to Pulsar’s league table, two Scottish cities are also mad keen on the drink. Glasgow is in 4th place with 6% of conversions about gin attributed back there, and Edinburgh holds up the bottom of the table giving the world 4% of all tweets about the fashionable spirit.

Is it gin o’clock yet?

When do you think it strikes gin o’clock? It might be earlier in the day than anyone suspected.

Pulsar’s social data reveals there is a significant spike in gin conversations on any average week around 3.30 on Friday! That’s a good early start to the weekend.

The next surge of interest in 5.30 on Saturday.

The true gin o’clock comes on the other side of the weekend with the highest recorded amount of chatter about gin happening at about 7.45pm on Sundays.
