Grand Opening: The Refinery, City Centre

November 29, 2016 by Guest Reviewer Leave a Comment

Edinburgh Reviews’ Caroline was lucky enough to attend the opening of The Refinery on St Andrew Square. Here’s the field report from the night.

On Thursday we were invited to the opening of Edinburgh’s newest restaurant, The Refinery at St Andrew Square which is part of the trendy Drake & Morgan brand. Having been to the London Regent’s Place restaurant I was excited to see if their particular flavour of industrial chic was translatable across the border.

I was not disappointed. The interior decor combined factory elements like exposed bricks and pipes, with Scottish twists, such as a highland cow mural and stag head mounts.

After stuffing myself with a selection of uber cute canapes and slurping down the sample cocktails, I can confidently say that The Refinery fits in Edinburgh’s casual dining scene. Time will only tell if it makes a lasting mark on the already busy food and nightlife scene, one thing I know is that I will be back.

A charming pink and green cafe with a clear plant-based foodie focus. @heyplantbae is one of the surprisingly common jewels on Easter Road and is absolutely worth visiting. https://buff.ly/4a7qnfB
If you don't fancy the crowd intensity of the #christmasmarket or the prices then @iceangels_edin is maybe 10 minutes walk away, about a third cheaper for a third more (well, based on my thorough crêpe testing) and they have a #santa mailbox. There's even Christmas Trees for sale up the road. An alternative evening out.
Somewhere new for #sugarsunday as Girdy visits @marias_kitchen21 for a delicious Italian limoncello bread and butter pudding.
