Eat your fill with food and drink in Edinburgh

Ah, a favourite subject of ours! When it comes to food and drink in Edinburgh, the city is just brimming with restaurants, cafes, bistros, gastro pubs, pizzerias, chippies and just about everything else to tickle your fancy.

If you're looking to dine out, Girdy & Birdy are gradually eating their way through the 'Burgh and updating their restaurant experiences regularly, both on the blog, and - more frequently - through social media.

You don't even have to eat out, either! You can order in, with many delivery services (such as JustEat, Deliveroo and UberEats) happy to bring exactly what you want straight to your door. Food and drink in Edinburgh is always a delight!

Girdy & Birdy Review: Foresters Guild, Portobello

November 13, 2023 by Girdy & Birdy Leave a Comment

Foresters Guild is an excellent retreat after a long walk or a day spent on the beach – or just whenever you’re hungry, really. It has fun wee touches to make it more memorable.

Mimi’s Bakehouse on Market Street offers a great selection of sandwiches, all-day brunch and sweet treats! It’s a great little pick-me-up, and always a pleasure.

The 8 Best Places to Get Sushi in Edinburgh

October 30, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

Birdy has taken advantage of her sushi habit to write this blog especially about where’s best to grab some sushi in the ‘Burgh. This is not necessarily an exhaustive list, but it is all tried and tested – by us or people we know and trust.

Review: The Bullfinch, a beer garden pub, Leith

October 22, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Okay, hands up! I’m terribly late with my review of The Bullfinch, a pub in Leith. In a previous life, it was The Pond, but it has had new owners for two years now. I’ve been popping in since it became The Bullfinch, and despite not drinking as much as I used to, I really […]

Review: Halloween afternoon tea at Mimi’s Bakehouse, Leith

October 22, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

I got really excited when I saw Mimi’s Bakehouse advertising a special Halloween afternoon tea, and knew that it wouldn’t take much persuading to get Girdy onboard for that one, either! Hence, this is something the both of us had really been looking forward to.

Review: Twenty’s More than Plenty at this Princes Street Restaurant

October 16, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

Birdy headed to the award-winning Twenty Princes Street to check out the contemporary Scottish menu – and she took her family with her! I hadn’t heard a lot about Twenty Princes Street; it was my partner who had drawn attention to it when looking for somewhere nice and central (based in Hotel Indigo) to venture […]

Review: ChicKing, a fried chicken restaurant in Leith

September 22, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A halal KFC-style franchise from the UAE with friendly staff, an expansive menu of chicken options and, when I went, teething troubles.

A review of Riddles alcoholic ice tea

September 17, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Riddles Mango Ice Tea and Riddles Lemon Ice Tea are both light, refreshing and slyly acholic. Available in Sainsbury’s, these drinks are party-worthy and conversation-starting alternatives worth taste testing.
