A review of Lux Vegan Cakes

August 22, 2021 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

In a moment of weakness, I did two things at once;

  1. I succumb to a Groupon deal
  2. I bought cakes

In my defence, they were vegan cakes. And check out the Groupon offer, don’t they look great?

I remembered to take a picture of one of my four before eating it, and so we can compare and contrast. I think the cakes are a good match. This is not false advertising by photography; these biscoff cakes are as good as they look.

And yes, dear reader, I went for the biscoff cakes. Another weakness!

Buying mail order cakes from Groupon

The hardest part was the process. Once Groupon gets your money, no cake will arrive. Instead, you check your Groupon account for a discount code.

Then find Lux Vegan Cakes. Recreate your order, head to check out and bash the code in there. As ever, you need a bit of shopping savvy to spot where the coupon code claim box is hiding in the checkout process.

I’ve not tested ordering more than my Groupon deal, getting the cakes wrong, and applying a mismatched coupon. It’s both a worry and a temptation/excuse to test the process again!

Honestly, after the impulse purchase, I forgot that I had made the order. I’ve just moved flat (hence being weak and needy) and my head is full of to-do lists.

What a surprise when, the very next day, there was a mystery box outside my door. Inside were four carefully packed cakes!

Yes, but are the vegan cakes any good?

These are gorgeous cakes.

As you’d expect for anything with a gloop-level that’s been through the post, they’re not quite at the same visual beauty as the Groupon photos. But they’re pretty close!

They’re tasty too! So. Much. Sugar.

But, importantly, not too much. Not for me and my sweet tooth. I wish they’d give me a clue about the calories or even how much the cakes weigh. I keep on having to estimate…

While the cakes are lovely, light, spongy and delicious, I’m unsure when they go off. There’s only one of my so I’ll, ahem, force myself to eat one a day and trust I get to the end before they expire. Given the amount of sugar that seems to be in them, I think they’ll preserve well.

Eating Lux Vegan cakes

I don’t think these cakes are great for making you look posh, though. I don’t fancy trying to get them out of their plastic tubs and making them look presentable. I do fancy taking a spoon to them and eating them straight from the tub.

I’ve found that good smokey tea is a perfect accompaniment and contrast.

Summary

I ordered these in a moment of weakness, and while I now have level 3 guilt, I don’t regret the impulse buy. These vegan cakes are tasty! They’re a sugar hit of delicious goodness. I wish I knew a little more about them.
