A review of Sherlock Holmes: The Speckled Band, Fringe 2023

August 14, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This stage show is a faithful in spirit and entertaining adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes: The Speckled Band. It is an excellent play that is perfect for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and does justice to this classic story.

A review of Initial Consult, Fringe 2023

August 14, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Initial Consult is a show worth watching, and it’s worth skipping other shows for. Charlotte Grimmer plays a character that’s both alien to us and wholly relatable simultaneously, and then there’s music, comedy, shock and tap dancing.

A review of Dorks ‘n’ Orks – Live, Fringe 2023

August 14, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Dorks ‘n’ Orks is a funny live show where comedians try their hand at a lightly animated D&D-inspired adventure. Ideal for geeks, gamers, their parents and anyone who likes a bit of impro comedy.

It Just So Happened is a fascinating and funny history podcast. Fans should go, people interested in neither history nor smart people discussing history are unlikely to enjoy it, but the rest of us probably will. I did!

Tragedy Plus Time takes place in the Assembly Rooms and the anticipation was palpable. Not only were people coming to see their favourite comedian, but it was in proper fancy surroundings.

Review: The George Lucas Talk Show

August 12, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

The George Lucas Talk Show has a reputation that precedes it; and therefore, it also has some hardcore fans. Previous guests have included the likes of Seth Meyers, Weird Al, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Hamm, Kevin Smith, Peter Serafinowicz, Ahmed Best, Tony Hale, Aimee Mann and writers of Star Wars.

Review: ‘The Retreat’ will make you moist in your men-ses

August 12, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

Birdy headed to one of her favourite venues, The Underbelly at Cowgate, to watch The Retreat – a fabulous variety comedy show themed around a corporate retreat for a company that makes period pants. As everyone filed into the Underbelly’s Big Belly, there was an air of anticipation as we awaited the acts to appear. […]
