Review of Tom Cashman: 2 Truths, 1 Lie and 17 Slight Exaggerations, Fringe 2025

The star of Taskmaster Australia returns to Edinburgh Fringe with more PowerPoints and even more polls!

The show

Tom Cashman returns to the Edinburgh Fringe with a mix of personal storytelling and sharp observational comedy with Tom Cashman: 2 Truths, 1 Lie and 17 Slight Exaggerations.

Tom has navigated heartbreak and the little absurdities of everyday life, sharing his journey with warmth, vulnerability, and laughter. His ability to evaluate his own life, friendships, and values through comically performed polls sets him apart from many comedians, making the show both intimate and clever.

There is a calmness to Tom’s delivery that makes him instantly likeable, though during this preview, a few transitions between sections felt a bit abrupt. Some ideas could benefit from deeper exploration or tightening for more impact. However, as this was a preview, and Tom was still jet-lagged, it’s clear the show will grow stronger throughout the festival.

Even so, the material already shows a solid structure, balancing genuine emotional moments with well-timed observational humour. Tom’s storytelling feels authentic and relatable, inviting the audience into his world in an entertaining and thoughtful way.

Venue and atmosphere

The show was staged in one of the cozy basements of one of the iconic Monkey Barrel venues. The room works perfectly with Tom’s style, offering a relaxed, intimate atmosphere that allows the audience to feel closely connected to the performer without feeling cramped.

For Taskmaster fans

If you’re familiar with the Australian version of Taskmaster, Tom adds an extra layer of enjoyment by sharing behind-the-scenes stories from the show. These amusing and often unseen anecdotes give fans a unique insight into his role as assistant, adding charm and personality to the set.

Summary

Tom Cashman: 2 Truths, 1 Lie and 17 Slight Exaggerations is an engaging hour that blends personal honesty with clever comedy. While some parts could be polished, the solid storytelling and unique interactive format make it worth catching. With early shows selling out, it’s a good idea to book your tickets while Tom is in town.
