Radar: ClothesCycle Markets comes to Edinburgh’s Meadowbank

March 5, 2024 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

An upcoming sustainable fashion market in Edinburgh is the UK’s largest. ClothesCycle Edinburgh comes to Meadowbank Sports Centre on Sunday, the 24th of March.

The London Road event runs from 11am to 5pm, you can get tickets online now or risk trying at the doofr for £5. Inside, there will be over 60 sellers and DJs for live music all day long.

Catching Girdy’s radar is the offering of street food and even a bar. ClothesCycle vistors will also have access to an all-day clothes swap and if that sounds like a lot to fit in then the event will take place in Meadowbank’s largest hall and that’s 20,000 square feet.

ClothesCycle is a sustainable fashion and accessories brand founded by university student Poppy Collingwood-Cameron towards the end of 2022. The company has seen rapid growth owing to the popularity of sustainability among Gen Z, which grew during the pandemic. Many young entrepreneurs started small businesses selling pre-loved and sustainable clothing during COVID-19, and ClothesCycle captured the hearts and minds of this community.

We spoke quickly to Poppy over email and, excitingly, can confirm that Wanderers Kneaded are expected to be among the street food sellers (Girdy’s never been), as are Chulos Stuffed Cookies (Girdy is a veteran) and we think Craftease Coffee (Girdy runs on coffee).

Indoor market

It was just last month that Birdy reviewed Yokohama Sushi on Dalziel Place. While we’ve not written up reviews yet, there’s Baba Rista for coffee further along London Road towards Portobello and Gautam’s for Nepalese and Indian food if you head in the other direction.

If the weather is kind, then across the road is Holyrood Park, with St Margaret’s Loch just nearby. If not, then there’s Bellfield Brewery, which offers tours.

Summary

A large sustainable fashion market is coming to Meadowbank on Sunday, the 24th of March.
