Edinburgh Reviews has a sneak peek of Good Burger because we turned up early. The burger venue opens officially on the 21st of February.
In our defence, Good Burger was due to open about today and decided to soft launch instead for staff training. That’s a good sign, I think, with the charming little venue between Polworth and Fountainpark handing out samples and menus to the occasional (not everyone!) curious person who popped their head in.
There’s already a Good Burger website; they’re confirmed for Deliveroo and the other big two delivery services and there’s that Keenan and Kel movie. Interestingly, Good Burger tells us that they’ve got they’ve got the Trademark on ‘Good Burger’ in the UK. Good going!
Good Burger’s food
In this preview, we can confirm that the simply smashed cheeseburger is delicious. It’s a double cheeseburger, perfectly cooked and in a lightly toasted bun.
I was impressed and absolutely will go for one of their quadruple burgers on my next visit. The menu looks impressive, with two tiers of burgers, putting the Simple Burger in the first tier and the titular Good Burger in the premium tier. There are also fried chicken options, loaded fries, cookie dough and an impressive collection of milkshakes.
I asked Birdy what she’d pick next;
By the look of the menu, I absolutely believe Good Burger can live up to the promise of the name, and I can’t wait to try some of their premium burgers. And the cookie dough, obviously.
Given that we turned up on a literal training day or, simple burgers were exceptionally good and arrived swiftly but not worringly so. Our burgers arrived in foil, which is perfect for takeaway and worked for us eating in but, apologies, I did not ask if that’s the plan post-launch. Why the oversight? The foil “plates” made perfect sense that I didn’t think to question them.
Good Burger’s vibe and venue
There are seats here but Good Burger is a takeaway near the busy Fountainpark. We sat on bar stools and by a counter and had plenty of room. I think six friends or four strangers could settle down to eat in Good Burger. There’s the counter we sat at and another by the window that looks out over Dundee Street and the Western Approach Road.
Oh yes, Good Burger, with its bright sign and movie-check recognition, is an easy spot from the Western Approach Road. A lot of drivers will see this place.
Bronwen did, and while on a brisk walk to Fountainpark in Edinburgh’s chilly February weather, too!
Ever since I walked past and saw the sign for Good Burger, I’ve been excited for it opening – that excitement ramped up even further when I saw that famous line from the move lit up on the interior wall.
I know Good Burger is new, but I noticed how clean it was and how it seemed to have been planned so that keeping it clean would be easy enough. I also liked how the menu, although generous with options, was easy to read.
While we hung around in a burger joint that was not yet open but serving us test food anyway, we got chatting with the owner and some of the staff. It’s always nice when the people in a hospitality business are charismatic and friendly.
Things to do in Fountainbridge
Or is Good Burger in Polwarth? Shandon? It’s just across the road from Fountainpark, so I think of the area as Fountainbridge.
Fountainpark is nearby, which means a Cineworld. It also means the arcade Funstation, the shooting Laser Station, crazy golf at Volcano Falls, and bowling at Tenpin.
There’s the Union Canal for a walk before or after, and we can confirm hiring a boat is viable and splashy!
Overall
We’ll save the star rating until the official launch, but this sneak peek inside Edinburgh’s Good Burger is very promising.
Our money is where our mouth is as we’re both planning a trip back, and this blogger is hoping that a forthcoming trip to Cineworld allows for a burger stop
