Review: Kai Thai, Thai Street Food on Easter Road

November 3, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Kai Thai is a welcome oasis of colour and flavour on Easter Road. The attention to quality, from the spot-on presentation to the impressive kids’ menu, makes it a must-try. It’s early days, but this new restaurant is already a winner.

Review: Wildfire, a steak and seafood bistro

November 3, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Wildfire in Edinburgh’s City Centre is a date-worthy gem. The focus is on exceptional quality steak, but don’t miss the Scottish classics like haggis or whisky ice cream. This popular spot is intimate and high-quality. Booking is essential.

Review: The Brunswick Book Club, a gastropub on Leith Walk

November 3, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A 5-star review of Leith’s Brunswick Book Club. It’s a well-run, casual pub and restaurant with “absolutely fantastic” food. Great for solo diners, groups, and terrace-lovers. A remarkable discovery that’s great value for money.

Review: The Basement, Mexican Food and Cocktails

November 2, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The Basement is an atmospheric Mexican restaurant on Broughton Street. With its Day of the Dead decor, it’s a perfect date spot. We love the tacos (Taco Tuesday!), drunken beans, and churros. Staff are superb, but it gets busy, so book ahead!

Review: La Casa, Leith Walk

November 2, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

La Casa on Leith Walk is a lively, bright tapas bar perfect for catch-ups. It serves solid Mediterranean classics, from loaded bruschetta to great veggie options. Don’t miss the dessert specials! Service is relaxed. A reliable Leith survivor.

Review: Siren’s ‘Predator: Badlands’ First Hunt IPA

October 30, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A must-buy for sci-fi geeks, this Predator collaboration from Siren is a solid win. The beer is a “good beer” (if “not a great beer”), offering crisp, modern, fruity hop flavours. The main event is the “cool” can, but the liquid inside is a tasty “Saturday night action movie beer.”
