Review: The Gruff Goat, A cafe and bistro on Teviot Place

December 9, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The Gruff Goat on Teviot Place is a strange beast. With a menu ranging from haggis to a recommended egg Shakshouka, it’s great for picky groups. However, the atmosphere is confused, and you might end up dining next to a heater.

Review: Ella – Taste of Greece on Leith Walk

December 9, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Atmosphere reigns supreme at Ella – Taste of Greece. It looks like an ancient villa but serves reliable, standard Greek fare. Good for solo diners or groups, but the tight layout isn’t pram-friendly. A convenient “safe bet” rather than a culinary star.

Located near Haymarket station, Flatbread Turkish Bakery House serves authentic Pide and Lahmacun. The venue is clean with a great bakery counter. While portions are light, the Doner flatbread is delicious and the service is fast and friendly.

December 1, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Is The Dome’s Christmas dinner worth the hype? Girdy & Birdy braved the crowds to find out. With a tree boasting a million lights and a turkey roulade that actually fills you up, it’s a visual stunner.

La Querencia on Leith Walk offers authentic Argentine steaks and incredible desserts. While the sign is hard to spot, the friendly service and parrillada make it a date-night gem
