The return of Illegal Jack’s

April 11, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

One of the first reviews on the site was of the old Illegal Jack’s on Lothian Road. The local business was forced to close after a leak from the flat above. No business should ever have to close like that.

Now, Illegal Jack’s might return. A possible new venue has been found in St Patrick Square. The catch? Banks consider this to be a new business and the business loans are not coming. The solution is a crowd-funding effort!

Launched on STV Edinburgh, the Jackstarter on Kickstarter has been live for les than 24 hours and has already attracted more than £7,000 in pledges from over 220 backers. If the total £75,000 is hit in the next month then Illegal Jack’s will return.

There are some early bird/limited pledge tiers that offer up limited edition Illegal Jack’s t-shirts, bags and jackets. Other pledges offer up free food and if you’re willing to go high enough then you could eat free for the next 10 years.

Edinburgh’s famous Ian Rankin is a supporter. He appears in the pitch video. His Twitter account has over 85K followers and has retweeted the call to create 14 jobs.

So, can you help create 14 new jobs? Please become a #Jackstarter ! Huge thanks to @Beathhigh also 🙂 https://t.co/KxsCnsYmpB
