Okay, hands up! I’m terribly late with my review of The Bullfinch, a pub in Leith. In a previous life, it was The Pond, but it has had new owners for two years now. I’ve been popping in since it became The Bullfinch, and despite not drinking as much as I used to, I really […]

Review: Halloween afternoon tea at Mimi’s Bakehouse, Leith
I got really excited when I saw Mimi’s Bakehouse advertising a special Halloween afternoon tea, and knew that it wouldn’t take much persuading to get Girdy onboard for that one, either! Hence, this is something the both of us had really been looking forward to.
Review: ChicKing, a fried chicken restaurant in Leith
A halal KFC-style franchise from the UAE with friendly staff, an expansive menu of chicken options and, when I went, teething troubles.
Review: Kafeneion to Steki, Leith
Kafeneion to Steki is a great little taverna if you’re looking for authentic Greek food – or just drinks, as the ‘taverna’ style is promoted by owners Joanna and Alexandra – in a relaxed atmosphere.

You can find Health by Science at 98 Giles Street but don’t just turn up there, book an appointment and even sample one of their free intros or online services.
Review: Harbour Bistro, Newhaven
Newhaven’s Harbour Bistro has impressed everyone I know who knows about this discreet gem. The food here is Master Chef quality, at least the highest tier I can imagine, and incredibly reasonably priced. I absolutely recommend the friendly vibe, the trip to Edinburgh’s waterfront and time in the charming restaurant.
A review of The Gull’s Grocery, a zero-waste grocery in Leith
A helpful, conveniently located and generously priced community zero-waste shop. There’s more than food available here, as there are kitchen and bathroom supplies too. The Gull’s makes Edinburgh better with great charity efforts and resources.
A review of Bijou Bistro, a restaurant off Leith Links on Restalrig Road
If French food is synonymous with quality, then perhaps that’s more appropriate as the food here is always top-notch, interesting and rewarding.
