Review: The George Lucas Talk Show

August 12, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

The George Lucas Talk Show has a reputation that precedes it; and therefore, it also has some hardcore fans. Previous guests have included the likes of Seth Meyers, Weird Al, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Hamm, Kevin Smith, Peter Serafinowicz, Ahmed Best, Tony Hale, Aimee Mann and writers of Star Wars.

Review: ‘The Retreat’ will make you moist in your men-ses

August 12, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

Birdy headed to one of her favourite venues, The Underbelly at Cowgate, to watch The Retreat – a fabulous variety comedy show themed around a corporate retreat for a company that makes period pants. As everyone filed into the Underbelly’s Big Belly, there was an air of anticipation as we awaited the acts to appear. […]

Review: The Baron and the Junk Dealer, Fringe 2023

August 12, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

The story starts in a time that’s not now, and somewhere really far from here. In the time of something that could only be described as space battles. There’s been a crash, and the only remaining survivors are Watto (Newman) – a junk dealer, and the mysterious Baron (Ratliff).

A review of Amelia Bayler: I Work in Customer Service But I’m Actually a Pop Star, Fringe 2023

August 11, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

It was Birdy’s first time in the BlundaBus, and she got a warm welcome from Amelia Bayler as she made her way through the curtain, up the stairs and plonked down on the nearest bench ready for a fun show. I’d never seen Amelia Bayler perform before, but apparently she had this very same venue […]

Review of Lost Cabaret: Nonsense in the Night, Fringe 2023

August 10, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

As a general rule, I’m usually up for anything cabaret, and anything a bit weird, whimsical and silly, so this show appealed to me whilst browsing the media portal. I didn’t realise until after I’d booked that it was based in the famous Magical Spiegelyurt, so that was also a bit of a treat.

Review: John Robertson’s ‘The Dark Room’ is Chaotic, Brutal, Unmissable Entertainment – Fringe 2023

August 10, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

John Robertson’s The Dark Room is an unmissable Fringe institution at this point. Without this show, is it even Fringe? If you’ve never experienced The Dark Room before, so yourself a favour – if you can somehow get hold of a ticket, that is!

A review of RENT, Fringe 2023

August 10, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

This version of RENT is brought to us by local Edinburgh company Bare Productions – who pride themselves on giving opportunities to amateur performers – with the show being put together by creative director Dominic Lewis and musical director Finlay Turnbull.

A Review of Chris Grace: as Scarlett Johansson, Fringe 2023

August 7, 2023 by Guest Reviewer Leave a Comment

So, with the inventive and genuinely funny use of some wigs and faithful-to-the-original costumes, it’s Chris Grace as Scarlett Johansson as Chris Grace. No, wait, it’s Chris Grace as Scarlett Johansson as Chris Grace as Scarlett Johansson.
