June 30, 2024 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Ice cream nachos are made from broken ice cream cones and a generous topping. They’re a big, delicious dish that can help reduce food waste—perfect!

Review: 71 Steps, a bagel bakery on Rodney Street

February 29, 2024 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

71 Steps is a new cafe on Rodney Street with excellent coffee, a selection of baked treats and a menu of closed and open bagels. It’s absolutely worth a visit, especially if you’re looking for a place to sit down and treat yourself.

With delicious and sometimes unexpected food pairings, Educated Flea is not your run-of-the-mill restaurant but an amazing dining experience that’s really all about the food.

Review: The Howlin’ Hound, a hot dog joint near the city centre

December 27, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood 3 Comments

The Howlin’ Hound is a vibrant pub, cocktail lounge, or hot dog joint with some exotic meats, friendly staff, and a pleasant vibe. Just around the corner from the city centre too.

A review of One Canon, a pizza pub in Canonmills

February 26, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A true indie of a pub, with an excellent vibe, a fantastic range of drinks, comfortable tables, a supply of board games and a proper pizza set up. This ethical relax zone makes excellent pizzas at incredibly fair prices, is open late and should be on your to-visit list.

A review of Ice Angels, an ice cream parlour in Canonmills

September 19, 2022 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A family-run treat for the sugar senses! There’s a fantastic range of tasty ice cream here, with an impressive number of cone options. It’s the sundaes, the waffles, the crepes and even the chocolate or fruit kebabs that help make Ice Angels a proper destination, though and a place worth travelling to. Go, go, go!

A review of Betty and George, Canonmills

November 1, 2021 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Betty and George is brand new at Howard Street in Canonmills. I’ve been several times and always had a good experience, but I can’t imagine opening during lockdown-lite and COVID-19 was hiccup-free!
