Review: Nate Kitch: Something Different!!!!!, Fringe 2025

August 12, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The Fringe is a festival of risk. Every year, performers, audiences and reviewers take a chance on something new, an untested idea or a rising star.

Nate Kitch

Nate Kitch’s show, Something Different!!!!!, is a masterclass in this philosophy. It’s a show that embraces chaos and uncertainty, creating a unique and memorable experience that feels more like a happening than a conventional stand-up set. It’s not just a show about comedy; it’s a show that questions what comedy can be.

Crafted Chaos

From the moment the show begins, it’s clear that Kitch is not interested in a polished, predictable performance. The entire hour feels like a carefully constructed mess, a theatrical tightrope walk where the performer and audience are never quite sure what will happen next. This is chaos, but it’s a chaos with purpose. One moment, a man dressed as the devil politely takes a seat in the audience; the next, a tourist wanders in looking for another show before being escorted out. Both of these events, which may or may not be scripted, add to the feeling that anything is possible.

Kitch himself fuels this sense of anarchy, repeatedly leaving and re-entering the performance space, sometimes on the spur of the moment. He tells a story where his grandfather gets progressively younger with each mention of his age. This radical departure from traditional narrative structure is part of the charm. It’s a show that celebrates the rough edges, the imperfections, and the moments that fall apart. This is a show for people who like their art to be unpolished, unadorned, and a little bit dangerous.

The Anti-Comic’s Edge

Nate Kitch is an anti-comedian in the best sense of the word. His comedy is not about perfectly-timed punchlines or relatable anecdotes. Instead, it’s a form of mathematical chaos, a bizarre and beautiful logic that you can feel in the room. He pushes against the boundaries of what is considered acceptable on a comedy stage, but not in a way that is hostile or alienating. His humour is not aimed at shocking the audience with offensive material, but at exploring the very limits of the comedic form.

He brings a banana on stage, which is surely a comedy classic, and remains relevant today due to the Comedian. Kitch finds his twist, of course. This is the “edge” that Kitch is exploring. It’s an exploration of how far a performance can be pushed while still being considered comedy. He is a comedian who you feel is with you, not against you. He has a charismatic presence that draws you in, even as he defies all expectations. While his style may not be suited for a mainstream television game show, he has a star quality that suggests he is one to watch. He is a comedian you would recommend to your friends to prove you are ahead of the curve.

Overall

Nate Kitch’s Something Different!!!!! is a wonderfully anarchic and deeply intelligent hour of comedy. It’s a show that is as much about the act of performance as it is about making people laugh. Kitch’s unique brand of crafted chaos is a bold, refreshing, and genuinely memorable experience. If you’re a comedy fan looking for something truly outside the box, this is a worthy hour of your time.
