Review: Copper Blossom, a cocktail bar on George Street

December 24, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Descending into Copper Blossom feels like entering a secret floral sanctuary beneath the paving stones of George Street. Located on the corner of North Castle Street, this basement restaurant and bar makes a vibrant first impression with its flower-heavy decor and sophisticated pink tones.

Copper Blossom boozy brunch

It is a fantastic venue for a catch-up with friends or a stylish date night, though guests should note that the stairs are currently the only way down into this subterranean garden.

The Menu and the Mystery of Nolan

The bar is currently buzzing with the story of Nolan, their Nutcracker figurine that was famously stolen during the festive season. In a brilliant move, the venue has launched The Nickin’ Nolan Cocktail. It is a mix of Bumbu Rum, Frangelico, tonka, chocolate, salt, acid, and a vanilla foam. The drink is smooth, cheeky, and a little bit nutty, just like Nolan himself. It is a drink with a heart, too, as £5 from every sale goes directly to Cash For Kids.

For those visiting in December or January, there is an extra bit of fun to be had. If you mention the word Nutcracker to your server, you are given a scratch card. Prizes range from free sides and desserts to a full boozy roast for four or even a trip to Germany. It adds a playful, competitive edge to a night out, and even if you do not win the top prize, the cocktail is a reward in itself.

Savoury Bites and Sunday Roasts

The food menu is diverse, ranging from taco pairs and smash burgers to a very popular Sunday roast served from noon. The salt and chilli chicken waffle is a standout choice for those who enjoy a bit of heat with their comfort food. I also highly recommend the steak and eggs; the steak comes pre-cut and is an absolute pleasure to eat. It is the kind of dish that makes for an effortless, indulgent lunch.

If you are looking for a deal, the boozy brunch is excellent value. At £40 for two courses and three cocktails, or £30 for the non-alcoholic version, it is a hard bargain to beat in the city centre. While portions for the main plates can lean towards the bijou side, the quality is undeniably premium. For those with a sweet tooth, the espresso martini sundae or the bourbon ice cream sandwich are the perfect ways to round off a meal.

Things to do in City Centre

Copper Blossom

George Street is the heart of Edinburgh’s high-end shopping district, but there is plenty more to explore nearby. If you are arriving from further afield, TheTrainLine is the best way to book tickets into Edinburgh Waverley. For those staying overnight, Booking.com offers a range of options from boutique hotels to serviced apartments right on the doorstep of the New Town.

If you fancy a show after your meal, the Edinburgh Playhouse is within easy reach for world-class theatre. For visitors looking to explore the city’s outskirts or head to the coast, renting a vehicle through RentalCars.com is a convenient option. If you decide to stay in and fancy a treat delivered to your door, Deliveroo services the entire central area with a huge variety of local eats.

Overall

Copper Blossom is a polished, attentive, and visually stunning destination that consistently lives up to the hype. The service is quick, and the atmosphere is lively, making it a top choice for a stylish afternoon or evening out. It is the sort of place that makes you feel like you have found a hidden gem in plain sight. Just remember to book in advance, as this is one of the most popular spots in the city.
