Birdy couldn’t believe her luck when she was offered a luxury hi-back bean bag chair from GreatBeanBags.com for her new Edinburgh artist studio! See how she gets on…

As of now, I’m writing from my artist studio on Rose Street North Lane, just off bustling Rose Street and George Street, in a comfortable, luxury velvet hi-back bean bag chair. How did this happen?
Well, the studio was the first real stroke of luck (I’m still not over that). Whilst making plans with Girdy for moving in, I happened to utter the words: “Y’know, I should really pick up a bean bag chair or something.” – Three days later, what happened to land in my inbox was the offer of a REVIEW SAMPLE of not any bean bag chair, but a LUXURY bean bag chair, in my choice of colour, from GreatBeanBags.com!
Reader, if I believed in manifestation, I’d tell you this would be all the proof you’d need to believe in it, too.
Anyway, of course I accepted the (technically GAMING) bean bag chair, thinking I could kill two birds with one stone and write one review for the gaming aspect, and one for the Edinburgh artist studio aspect. (Psssst! If you’re not sure which review you’re reading right now, a quick reminder of the title of this site should set you straight)
So, without further ado, here’s my entirely honest (if slightly shambolic artist’s) review of this not only great, but AMAZING bean bag chair.
Style
Despite my bean bag chair being custom made in my own choice of colour, it got here to my house in probably less than a week. Thankfully, my neighbours took in the massive box for me, and when I got home I was excited to open it and find out how great this bean bag chair really was.
The first thing I noticed was the style. Having perused the site, and debated on the mustard (pictured above), I’d eventually settled on a beautiful deep raspberry red colour for my own bean bag.
Reader, this photo really does not do this chair justice. It’s one helluva stylish bean bag chair.
I was really excited to own something that looked so fabulous for my studio!
Comfort
I’m writing this review in order of logical steps, so of course the second thing I had to do once my bean bag chair arrived was… you guessed it, try it out! It’d been a bit of a day, so I was over the moon to take a weight off in what I’d previously deemed to become ‘my cosy corner’ of the kitchen.

The bean bag chair fit nicely in this ‘cosy corner’ and I got my first taste of luxury bean bag comfort. I liked it a lot! I could easily imagine sitting down to relax after a long morning of being utterly transfixed in my art… or spend a long evening playing my favourite computer games.
Durability and portability
Have you ever tried transporting a bean bag chair on a bus? Reader, I wouldn’t recommend it. I did get some funny looks, and I heavily debated whether or not to fully disclose that I did this! After all, this bean bag chair RRPs at £188.99 (currently on sale for £112.99) and I didn’t want to seem disrespectful.

On balance, though, I think it’s a testament to how this particular bean bag holds up that I was able to (on a nice, dry day) transport it by carrying it over my shoulder, and then on and off a bus.
Also, it was worth it, because just look at how fabulous and at home it looks in my studio space! Upon inspection, I’m very glad to say the bean bag made it through Edinburgh public transport entirely unscathed.

In fact, I was incredibly proud of self for this achievement! I’m only a small woman with very minimal upper body strength, so the fact I was able to circumnavigate public transport and then walk from Princes Street to my studio on Rose Street North Lane with this thing means it really is easy to carry!
Value for money
Like I said above, this bean bag chair RRPs at £188.99 (currently on sale for £112.99). Now, to my inexperienced eye, that’s a LOT of money to pay for a bean bag, and if I’m entirely honest, I never would have dreamed of buying this off my own back.
However, now that I do own it, it’s a really great addition to my studio space and I’m really glad I have it. I spend most of my time either standing or sitting on a hard bench whilst painting, so having this lovely soft cushiony luxury bean bag chair for my breaks really is a lovely thing. I’ve even sat and played some games on my phone with it, as a way of relaxing.
What’s more, every single guest I’ve had to this studio has been very complimentary regarding my FABULOUS bean bag chair. It certainly makes the space feel more homely, too, and I see it standing the test of time. In terms of value per use, it does the job and well.
In fact, I can see these doing well in relaxed office spaces, or for gaming rooms (their intended purpose) owned by serious gamers. There’s a whole wealth of possibilities, actually!
To sum it up…
From the price alone, and as a non-connoisseur of bean bags in general, this chair from GreatBeanBags.com isn’t something I’d necessarily have purchased myself – but now that I have it, I wouldn’t want to be without it!
This bean bag chair is stylish, light, durable, and oh so comfortable – it’s been a real delight to be able to sit back and admire/reflect on my work for the day, or just have a coffee, read or play games on my phone in my down time at the studio.
As a bonus, here’s a photo of my pet monitor lizard, Darwin, enjoying this bean bag chair. He was definitely a fan, just in case that clinches it for you!
