Radar: Mercat Tours turns 40 and celebrates with 1985 tickets

June 27, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Edinburgh’s award-winning Mercat Tours is turning 40, and they’re running special tours for £19.85 to celebrate.

Tickets are usually closer to £40, but since former history teacher Des Brogan founded the company, which is now led by daughter Kat, in 1985, this special offer is dropping the price to £19.85.

Mercat Tours

Mercat Tours’ birthday celebration runs from July 1st to July 7th, and each ticket sold helps support the family company’s Our Stories, Your City program, which means local vulnerable communities receive aid from the tour company.

Last year, Mercat secured B Corp status, which means it has hit a high standard for doing social good, one of only 70 or so companies in Scotland to have done it and the first visitor attraction in the UK to get the certification.

At the time, Kat Brogan told local press,

Mercat Tours is driven by the desire to give our team, visitors and community the very best experience of work and the city. For almost four decades we have connected people, places and the past through the power of storytelling and our newly granted B Corp status is testament to the hard work and dedication of our team behind the scenes. We will continue to ‘give history a damn good telling!’ to for the many visitors who travel from home and abroad.

It’s worth noting that there are two types of tours. There’s the history tour with the Secrets of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and then the ghost tour!

The Mercat website already has an 1985 “Original Evening of Ghosts & Ghouls” page up. There’s also one for the Secrets of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, which details the duration, what to expect and where to go.
