On December 1st, from 10 am to 5 pm, at the Leith Arches, Makers n’ Bakers are hosting a craft market. I’m calling it a Christmas craft market because I intend to finish much of my Christmas shopping.
The Times published a list of the 17 Best Things to Do for Christmas in Edinburgh, and this new market ranked second!
I’ve been to Makers n’ Bakers events before, and they’re always well-run and charmingly indie. You might imagine some Christmas markets are full of stalls reselling Temu merch or professional imports that follow the circuit, but that’s not the case here. You can follow MnB Scotland on social to meet the traders beforehand. I’ve bought from many of them before.
MnB Scotland says there will be at least 15 stalls, vegan food and drinks.
Entry is free, and you can bring pets. The first hour has been assigned as the “sensory hour, ” meaning the organisers will adjust to create an atmosphere suitable for people with sensory sensitivities. That might mean lower lights, no or lower music, limited scents, and often a reduced crowd. I’ve just said that pets are welcome, but I imagine your own instincts kick in here, and if you have a big floof of a dog that gets on well with people, then she’ll be welcome, but if you know she can get a bit excited around people then maybe wait to 11 am. Makers n’ Bakers haven’t prescribed.

Where is Leith Arches?
The venue is on 6 Manderston Street and is split over two levels. One is wheelchair accessible, but the other is not.
Leith Arches is about two blocks up near the bottom of Leith Walk. The entrance is not Leith Arches Cafe Bar, on Leith Walk, but just around the corner.
The venue has a page up for the MnB Christmas Craft Market – they call it Christmas, too – and call out that you’re supporting local businesses and accessing one-of-a-kind gifts.
