Marmalade Café sits on the corner of Maritime Street and Bernard Street and enjoys large windows overlooking both. In fact, one of the physical attractions of the café is the bright and airy feel.
Marmalade is a deli that opens for breakfast, stays open relatively late and on Saturday. Customers pick crisps and juice from a wrack on the far wall along with their choice of bread roll. Once self-served to that extent Marmalade’s customers then approach the counter and indicate the fillings they wish. Marmalade has a healthy selection of cheese.
The selection of food is not just limited to rolls and fillings. Marmalade stocks the usual collection of soups, stoves and croissants. In addition, they have coffee facilities sufficient for most addicts.
There are a handful of tables and chairs available for people wanting to eat in. It’s not uncommon to find folks from the nearby agency offices having impromptu meetings over a coffee. Just be aware that the wind races down Bernard Street and Marmalade’s double doors are rarely fully closed – it can get a little chilly.
It’s the staff who make Marmalade successful. They’re friendly, helpful and professional. Friendly banter certainly makes stopping at Marmalade pleasant but be cautious if the customer queue is particularly long and you know you’re short on time.
