Review: BOOM BATTLE BAR – Hen Night Edition!

April 4, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

What do Birdies do when a friend is soon to be hitched? They go on a hen night, of course! Bronwen Winter Phoenix, our resident Birdy, visited Boom Battle Bar with a merry flock of hens for this very special review!

The vibe

We descended on Boom Battle Bar early on a Saturday evening, so things were just starting to ramp up. It was busy and the music was on loud – which is what you’d expect for a Saturday at a place with BOOM in the name.

Boom’s tagline is; ‘the most fun you’ll ever have’. When we arrived there *were* plenty of people having fun – but first, we had to sign the very responsible disclaimers which stated we had absolutely NOT been drinking before we start throwing axes around.

They double checked with us vocally, just to make sure absolutely no alcoholic drinks whatsoever had been consumed on this hen night – and I was saying nothin’.

Fun factor

Once we’d gotten the disclaimer out the way, it was time for the fun to commence! GIVE US THE AXES!!!

We got split into two teams, and because there were so many of us and music was so loud, we struggled to crowd around and actually hear what was being explained to us by our lovely host, George.

Luckily, the actual axe throwing seemed a lot less complicated than all the talking made it seem, and we were given a visual demonstration of two ways to hold and throw our axes.

Three axes per turn, scoreboard, and George was there to keep us right and take score. My very first turn, I hit the target – woohoo! Followed by two more throws of hitting nowhere near.

Tracy throwing an axe!

Out of my team, I ended up winning the axe throwing, only to find out I’m utterly terrible at augmented reality darts – but that was fine. We got to enter our chosen nicknames, emojis, and select a range of AR dart games. It was a blast!

We only played the axe throwing and AR darts, but there’s also very fun-looking ‘crazier golf’, pool, shuffleboards, and beer pong. Escape Hunt is also conveniently located within Boom Battle Bar!

So, plenty to do, and we had a lot of fun!

The drinks

The drinks menu seemed very decent, although again, being a teetotal person, I was on the mocktails. I highly recommend the strawberry lemonade! All the hens had two drinks each, and this being a hen night, we were also given drinks tokens for some bubbly.

The bar was exceptionally busy once we’d moved onto the darts, so there was a bit of a wait for drinks – but again, what do you expect on a Saturday night?! Once we had finished in the darts area, there was also a bit of an issue finding somewhere to sit.

Augmented reality darts

NOTE: We weren’t ordering any of the BOOM BITES, but I noticed there was a limited menu with some tasty-looking snacks if you fancied it.

Value for money

I felt Boom Battle Bar was very accommodating for large parties, and the package we chose with the drinks tokens seemed fair for what we got – would have loved more time with the axes, though, as (for me) that was the best bit!

Very happy with the value for money we got during this experience, and I’d happily return and do it all over again.

Scoreboard for axe throwing, and our lovely host, George!

Overall

We all had a really great time at Boom Battle Bar, and it’s made me want to go back to improve my axe throwing skills – maybe even try the crazier golf! Thank you, Boom Battle Bar, for making some hens very happy!

Summary

This was a really fun and different thing to do for a hen night! But it also looks like a great night out if you fancied visiting with friends, or even just as a couple. Just remember it’s over 18s after 7pm!
