Review: Dogstar, Leith – a Scottish restaurant

November 7, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Dogstar in Leith is a new foodie destination from chef James Murray. We found a bijou restaurant with a great bar, attentive staff, and a delicious, well-crafted seafood menu. A perfect new star for Leith. Highly recommended.

Review: Wildfire, a steak and seafood bistro

November 3, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Wildfire in Edinburgh’s City Centre is a date-worthy gem. The focus is on exceptional quality steak, but don’t miss the Scottish classics like haggis or whisky ice cream. This popular spot is intimate and high-quality. Booking is essential.

Hot Toddy on Jeffrey Street is a fantastic Scottish restaurant with friendly service and delicious food. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, it’s a great place to experience Edinburgh’s culinary scene.

A review of The Sorries, Fringe 2023

August 10, 2023 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The Sorries are a chance to hear songs sung by Scottish farmers and fighters hundreds of years ago. The performance and venue are both class, feeling safe and practised, and this gig feels ideal for people interested in history.
