Review of The Wine Barrel Steakhouse, Leith

June 8, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Update: R.I.P. The Wine Barrel. It was tasty but has become another establishment to fall victim to the curse of the corner. The Wine Barrel Steakhouse is in the cursed corner of Salamander Street and Elbe Street. The curse is simple; a lovely corner venue, first rescued by the experienced team behind The Compass, but […]

Review of Soba, City Centre

June 2, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’ve made a note to come back to the Soba Bar in Hanover Street and try again. Our visit was a spur of the moment decision, we leapt in the taxi, quizzed the driver about his views of the place and were safely dropped off at the door. Soba looked very busy, so much so […]

Review of the Old Chain Pier, Granton

March 3, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There’s a sign on the wall that says; “We don’t do fast food”. It’s not there as a bluff. There are two reasons why I’ve always had to wait when I’ve gone to the Old Chain Pier; it’s busy, they don’t rush. It’s worth the wait. In fact, I’ve tried chilli beef nachos the length […]

Review of Burger, Fountainbridge

March 2, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 4 Comments

Burger is a new burger joint in Fountainbridge. Other than saying the place offers burgers and hotdogs; why go there expecting anything else (as the people in the queue in front of me seemed to) I want to talk about location. The Burger website accurately lists the location as Fountainbridge Park. That’s not the same […]

Review of Nanyang, City Centre

February 13, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Nanyang is tucked away on the fringe of the city centre – just off the Middle Meadow Walk, between the Meadows and Lauriston Place. The official address is Lister Square but the street you enter from is Simpson Loan. I had never heard of Nanyang until invited there for dinner by the family. The website […]

Review of Britannia Spice, Leith

February 3, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This review is quite a challenge. While I really do enjoy the food at the Britannia Spice I’m rarely in a rush to go back. So why is that? The food really is good. We’re talking a range of Indian dishes that feel authentic, are well made and presented. My strong suspicion is that the […]

Aaaw yis! @gautamsedinburgh goes on the recommended list. Just off the festival beaten track but close enough to visit between shows. This is a starter dish!
A super #giraffeabouttown
Breakfast at @thehavencafe is always a treat and if I put different toppings with my pancakes it counts as exploring the menu. Right?
I bought a summer shirt (therefore ending summer) but I thought this corner of @_yellow_souls_ was equally worthy of finding a new home. Just as strong summer vibes!
Gang, @harmoniumbar's cauliflower steak of is worth fighting through the crowds for!
I enjoyed my trip to @nott_edinburgh and finding out what their Turkish Pizza was like! Delish.
