Review: The Rusty Seagull – A Pub on Portobello High Street

January 4, 2026 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

A fantastic, if noisy, addition to Portobello. The Rusty Seagull shines with a great atmosphere and a commitment to local beer. Expect separate queues for food and drink, but the quality of the burgers and the dog-friendly vibe make it worth the visit.

Review: The Fort, a collaboration of craft brewers on South Fort Street

December 14, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood 4 Comments

A new collab from three Edinburgh breweries, The Fort transforms a notorious spot into a craft beer haven. Expect tasty experimental cocktails, shiny facilities and a warm welcome from staff and locals, despite some minor architectural quirks.

Review: Mara, a stylish gastropub on The Shore

October 24, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A flexible gastropub in Leith’s competitive Shore district. Mara shines with its outdoor seating, local craft ales, and late weekend hours. The menu is strong, though some main dishes feel more like light bites. A stylish spot for discerning friends.

Drink in the brewery itself and enjoy Moonwake’s excellent craft beer, fine hospitality and perfectly pitched events.
