Review: The Breakup Variety Hour, Fringe 2026

August 17, 2026 by Guest Reviewer Leave a Comment

The Breakup Variety Hour marks Ariana and the Rose’s fringe debut and like our lord and saviour Hillary Duff, she is coming clean.

What to expect

Ariana has travelled from Brooklyn (via super successful shows in the US and Australia) to impart her hard earned relationship survival wisdom with us through a handy 6 step guide to not only surviving but healing from a breakup.

For 60 minutes, the 60 seat Assembly room turns into a therapy office, support group and even a party. The compact but comfy space really leads into the theme of ‘support group’ and communing with pals which Ariana really develops by taking time to interact with and get to know the audience. Even within a sold-out show, Ariana makes you feel like she’s your bestie chatting directly to you over a cocktail (which hey girl, I am totally open to any time you’re free!).

The 6-step guide is accompanied by catchy original songs in a variety of themes and styles will make you laugh, snap your fingers YES GIRL and even have little moments of reflection. There is no denying that Ariana has serious pipes and stage presence! Special shout out to ‘Be The Villain’, your new toxic anthem and ‘Romanticise your life’ which honestly is a lesson we should all take away, current victim of a break up or not.

The show offers a seriously relatable brand of millennial humour and tales and reflections on relationships that offer a bit of something for everyone in the audience. Ariana walks the line perfectly of giving advice but also not taking herself too seriously. The anecdotes of going ‘breakup blonde’ and deciding that 1am is the ideal to fully rearrange your life is so on point for anyone who has ever crashed hard after the end of a relationship. While the focus of the show is on breakups of the romantic variety, Ariana hits the nail on the head in terms of grieving broken dreams as well as broken relationships of all varieties alongside being open to new experiences and learning from life.

Overall

Through the show Ariana has an on point insight into reading the crowd and what an audience attending The Breakup Variety Hour wants to hear and let me tell you, any show that offers a little guided breathwork in peak Fringe season GETS IT. Ending on an empowering upbeat note, with exit tunes provided by our girl Hillary Duff, I honestly felt ready to kick down a door and take on the world – Thank you Ariana!

Summary

An hour long support group for thriving from a breakup and being your most iconic self, in all its good bad and ugly. Ariana and the rose describes a first date as asking ‘are you interested in loving me’ and as the date (audience) of The Breakup Variety Hour we can say, hell yes!
