Birdy and her fiancé leapt at the chance to get tickets for the one-off screening of Matt Palmer’s Fear Street: Prom Queen at the Cameo. It didn’t disappoint!

Matt Palmer is a well-known name on the Edinburgh horror scene; he organises All Night Horror Madness at the Cameo, and his other film Calibre won the Michael Powell award for Best British Feature.
So, when myself and my fiancé, Murdo, heard that his latest film, Fear Street: Prom Queen (now on Netflix) was getting a one-off special FREE screening at the Cameo, specifically for All Night Horror Madness supporters and fans, we couldn’t not attend.
See, myself and Murdo actually properly met for the first time at an ANHM event at the Cameo over 10 years ago now. So, to be sitting at the Cameo with our usual seats by the Chris Fooks plaque, for a horror film written and directed by Matt, was really lovely.
The atmosphere
Due to the nature of the event, we found the atmosphere to be buzzing and full of good vibes for Matt and the film. The deal was that our tickets were free as long as we supported the Cameo by buying around £5 worth of drinks and snacks each, which seemed more than fair.
We found friends over at the bar, and Matt had rocked up early around 9pm to have a chat about horror – another lovely touch, because really he’s always among friends at these events.
Before the show started, Matt also came up on stage to give a brief speech, to much applause. It was great hearing a little from him about the film before it started.

Fear Street: Prom Queen
I really, truly enjoyed Fear Street: Prom Queen as I munched on my salted caramel popcorn and drank my rhubard flavoured fizzy drink. The film is set in 1988, and it’s one that’s utterly for ’80s classic horror fans. The film is so much fun, containing horror tropes and references galore.
It’s quite fast-paced, delivers on the gore and action, and it’s also got a good chunk of humour thrown in. Does it bring anything new to the genre? No, but I wasn’t really expecting it to. It’s a lighthearted slasher movie with a decent element of cheese that delivers what it PROMises right to the end.
There was no point in time I felt any fear in Fear Street: Prom Night, but that was okay. I had a good time.
To sum it up…
Myself and Murdo had a fantoosh time watching Fear Street: Prom Night at the Cameo, and it felt like a real treat for loyal ANHM fans. We always show up, and because of that, the atmosphere was lovely – the film was very fun, too!
