I needed a bit of a pick-me-up, and sometimes there’s just nothing else for it but musical numbers from drag queens – plus, bonus points if there’s any Disney involved.
Well, it was my lucky day. Dizney in Drag was exactly what I needed, and I regret NOTHING about watching this performance.
The vibe
This show’s vibe is hilarious adult Disney-themed fun. Emphasis on the adult; you definitely wouldn’t take your kids! But if you’re looking for Kinky Arial, Cocaine-Fiend Snow White, Jacked Up Jasmine and more, with some of your fave classic Disney bangers (no Frozen here) with a sexy twist, this is for you!
The show itself
Along with a host of familiar, colourful LGBTQIA+ Disney-esque characters in drag, there is a bit of a sexuality-themed story to follow, as we go on a journey with little cheesecake/meringue/tiramisu/other dessert names as they look for their one true love.
They’ve got a hairy godmother and a single glass slipper to aid them as they look for their perfect person. There’s a bit of audience participation, singalongs and a surprising amount of beer, as we learn all about this strange new world they suddenly find themselves in, and the characters who are there to help along the way.
My favourite song was definitely the strap-on one (sang to the Gaston music from Beauty and the Beast), but there’s also music from the likes of Aladdin, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid and more – all with the unique Dizney in Drag stamp on ’em. There’s even a little bit of panto!
Will little ice cream sundae find who they’re looking for? Only one way to find out, and what’s to watch the show!
Some of the performers can also be found outside the venue after the show to sell merch and pose for photos in their full costumes, which was lovely to see. Sadly I had to rush to my next show, and photos during the show weren’t permitted.
Overall
Dizney in Drag: Once Upon a Parody is such a fabulous time for anyone who’s into drag, Disney, and just being entertained. I had such a good time, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I even loved the number at the end, sang to the audience as they were leaving.
Dizney in Drag: Once Upon a Parody
Summary
Fabulous, funny, entertaining and never dull, Dizney in Drag: Once Upon a Parody lets you rock out to all your classic Disney bangers with an 18+ vibe. Highly recommend.
