Review: How to Drive Yourself Crazy, Fringe 2025

August 2, 2025 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix 2 Comments

Birdy was excited to see this fun, feminist musical comedy show at The Space Triplex, and she wasn’t disappointed!

How to Drive Yourself Crazy is a show I spotted whilst browsing Fringe shows (as you do) and instantly got excited about. Why? Because it sounded right up my street.

Here’s the official description:

A sexy, sassy, orgasmic two-woman musical comedy show, made for you! Yes, you! Created by Mimi Meier and Holly Hart, this show features vignettes about the insanity of womanhood through the lens of toxic women’s magazines and mixes relatability, musicality, vulnerability, and above all, humour. With sketches including a history lesson, a steamy infomercial, a beauty pageant, an influencer skincare routine, and five original musical numbers about everything from Twilight to the joys of living with female roommates, this show will make you laugh, cry and get abs in 10 days!

Vibe

Feminist fun that points out how absolutely toxic/unfair/ludicrous it can feel to just simply exist as a woman, with sketches, relatable stories and musical numbers that’ll have you laughing and cheering more than crying.

As someone who grew up with toxic women’s magazines of the ’90s and early 00s, I could completely relate to the experiences with all-too-familiar male-focused sex tips (“how to look mysterious while drinking his c**” was a belter of a line) and weight loss tips magazines.

The show itself

I really enjoyed the first ‘meet cute’ when we’re introduced to the characters of Holly and Mimi waiting in the GP’s office – both with urinary tract infections. They both pick up the aforementioned magazines to pass some time. From there we hear their individual stories and struggles, along with a whole lot of humour and some catchy songs.

Despite it being funny, it’s also far too relatable not to strike a chord, whether you’re struggling with weight, been dismissed by a doctor, haven’t been able to orgasm during sex, struggled with skincare or just felt like whatever you do isn’t good enough.

The musical numbers meant the show stayed mainly upbeat, with the audience laughing along – even got involved by clapping along to one of the songs – but there were some punches too where both Holly and Mimi repeatedly acknowledged through comedy, and their joint experiences, just how ridiculous it is to live as a woman sometimes.

I particularly enjoyed the sketch set in 1949, along with the dodgy sex tips musical number and the ‘have you tried not being fat?’ song.

Overall

I really enjoyed How to Drive Yourself Crazy, and regard it as a treat for anyone with a vagina who just wants to feel seen in a world that can often make you feel like you’re less than.
