Review: Closet Brewing’s Tabletop beer

January 29, 2026 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Tabletop by Edinburgh’s own Closet Brewing is a masterclass in the often-overlooked category of table beer.

Tabetop Beer

At a gentle 3.2 per cent ABV, this is a brew designed for the long haul, specifically crafted to accompany marathon tabletop roleplaying sessions. First impressions are striking, thanks to a gorgeous pink can adorned with a polyhedral d20 that signals exactly who this beer is for.

I first encountered the name through a mention at The Fort Pub in Edinburgh, but my own supply arrived via the Leith Bottle Co. It feels like a very local, friendly product that captures the spirit of the city’s burgeoning craft scene. Whether you are navigating a treacherous dungeon or just a long Tuesday evening, it is an easy addition to the fridge.

A critical hit for gaming sessions

The genius of Tabletop lies in its purpose. Because it is so mild, you can enjoy a couple of pints without impairing the critical decision-making skills required for complex gaming. It is a beer that respects your focus.

This collaboration with the London-based RPG Taverns shows a clever understanding of the hobbyist community. It is a palate-cleansing treat that works remarkably well after a stressful day at work.

Zesty notes and sessionable sips

In the glass, Tabletop is a fruity pale beer that delivers far more character than its low alcohol content might suggest. It is crisp, delicious, and extremely palatable. There are distinct touches of grapefruit and lime that give the beer a zesty, bright profile. It is the kind of beer that honestly just feels ideal for a relaxing evening at home.

When it comes to pairings, lightness is key. While a heavy curry would easily overpower the delicate citrus notes, it is a perfect match for salty nibbles. It is just ideal with crisps or popcorn, making it a natural fit for a gaming table. If your snack cupboard is looking bare before a session, a quick order through Just Eat can ensure the snacks arrive at your door as quickly as the beer.

Overall

Tabletop may well be my favourite in Closet Brewing’s growing collection. It is a cleverly devised beer that hits exactly the right notes for its target audience. Just like a half-orc barbarian, this brewery is going from strength to strength. For anyone looking for a sessionable, high-quality pale ale that won’t leave you feeling heavy, this pink can is highly recommended.
