Review: Bald 2 in 1, Fringe 2025

August 25, 2025 by Guest Reviewer Leave a Comment

A delightful journey into absurdity with Bald 2-in-1, a split-bill stand-up showcase from two very different bald men (although, as they point out, all bald men look the same) that bring their own brand of nonsense to the stage.

Jim Hooker

First up is Hooker, spinning hilarious tales of growing up in Essex, complete with a gloriously specific Essex mum, a healthy disregard for blue lights, and the suspicious presence of shampoo in a hairless man’s bathroom.

An attempt to be the “fun uncle” goes off the rails, delivered with a mix of charm, wit and goofiness.

Mark Moloney

Then comes Moloney, opening with a surreal “imagine if”  scenario via the Vengaboys before plunging into a world where you can expect anything but normal behaviour.

He admits to struggling with dating because he can’t quite figure out the sweet spot between a subtle look and creepy staring. If you love deadpan and the absurd, he’s your guy.

Slapstick finale!

The pair close the show with an experiment of slapstick, whacking each other on the head with an arsenal of props, food included. It’s silly, lighthearted fun and the perfect way to end.

Overall

If you’re looking for breezy fun with a rhythm that never tires, both sets are packed with hilarious  anecdotes and well-crafted jokes. Even if the energy softens at times, the playful finale more than makes up for it. A strong debut for two newcomers.
