Running from the 10th to the 16th of November, the festival is set for a triumphant run across two of the city’s most iconic cinemas: the Cameo Picturehouse and, in a particularly welcome development, the newly reopened Filmhouse on Lothian Road.

The return to the Filmhouse is especially poignant for film lovers in the capital. The cinema’s parent company collapsed in 2022, forcing a sudden closure that disrupted a previous Scotland Loves Anime festival, which had to relocate to the Cameo at short notice. However, thanks to a determined grassroots campaign and support from various organisations, the beloved institution has been fully refurbished and is reopening its doors.

To celebrate this homecoming, the Filmhouse will host a special one-off gala screening of ChaO, complete with a Q&A with the director. The rest of the festival’s packed schedule will take place at the Cameo Picturehouse, offering a fantastic mix of classics and must-see features.

This is a huge week for animation in the city and a wonderful opportunity to support both the festival and the newly returned Filmhouse.
