Have you seen the strange pavement apples in Leith?

September 11, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

What’s going on with the green apples that have appeared in Leith? They appear to have been stencilled and then applied with green paint.

Apples have been sighted as far “up” Leith Constitution Street, where they trail down towards Bernard Street and then take a turn towards the Shore.

It’s very likely that Newhaven Fest is behind the appearance of these paint apples. Newhaven Fest will launch on Sunday the 23rd of September, marketing September’s Harvest Festival weekend. As you might expect for a Harvest Festival, Newhaven Fest will celeberate the Newhaven community’s gardening and growing skills.

Newhaven’s Fishmarket Square and Main Street will have stalls from a number of Scottish food specialists, including Thistly Cross Cider. They’ll also have artists such as the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and Coburg House Art Studios.

How can we be confident that Newhaven Fest is behind the appearence of the apples? We can trace it all back to this rather adorable tweet.

We’ve been wondering about this. Every morning on the school walk my younger daughter shouts “Apples!” every time she sees one. We were quite bewildered by their appearance.
