Are these the four best hotels in Edinburgh?

December 11, 2014 by Guest Reviewer Leave a Comment

Hotel Direct got in touch with Edinburgh Reviews when they launched their Edinburgh Twitter Guide. The site has a whole bunch of reviews, insight and opinions from some of the capital city’s powerlist Twitter users. There’s @Edinblogger, @EdinburghFoody, @totalfoodgeeks and others. There’s even a Top 20 List you can subscribe to on Twitter to watch the banter in real time.

Not wanting to miss out on all the fun Edinburgh Reviews suggested that Hotel Direct might want to do a guest review for the blog. Not only did they say yes – Hotel Direct’s MD, Mark Wilson, stepped forward himself to offer a rundown of what he thinks are the four best reviewed hotels in the city.

Thanks Mark!

The Scotsman

“The Scotsman hotel is something of an institution and remains the obvious choice for visitors who favour understated luxury and an authentic sense of history. Housed in the former Scotsman newspaper offices, this five-star boutique hotel has been carefully converted, retaining the building’s Edwardian grandeur – most strikingly exemplified by the magnificent Italianate marble staircase – and complementing it with comfortable modern furnishings and amenities. Ideally positioned between the Old and New Towns on the North Bridge, The Scotsman grants excellent access to many of Edinburgh’s foremost attractions and might itself be considered one of the city’s landmark buildings. With stunning views across the city’s skyline, including the nearby Christmas markets and the castle, The Scotsman offers visitors a truly privileged setting from which to experience the magic of Edinburgh.”

The Bonham

“While the Bonham’s bolder tendencies are well hidden behind a discrete Victorian townhouse exterior, its dramatic, vividly decorated foyer quickly reveals a chic, opulent boutique hotel with a winning knack for bold modern colours. The 48 rooms are uniformly spacious and well equipped, though each has its own distinct character and design flourishes. The presence of a decadent brass Victorian bathtub in its vast, oak paneled bathroom means Room number 1 is almost certainly the pick of the hotel. The Bonham is situated in a peaceful West End backstreet but isn’t too much of a trek away from the main attractions.”

The Howard

“For intimate old-school luxury The Howard is hard to beat. Situated across three handsome Georgian townhouses in the heart of the New Town, the understated elegance of the exterior extends throughout this five-star hotel. Plush furnishings, rich fabrics and oil paintings abound and it is impossible not to be impressed by the gracefully industrious up-market hospitality on offer. The Howard is rightly proud of its full butler service and there’s no doubt that access to your very own personal butler – who will happily unpack your luggage, iron your clothes, serve you afternoon tea and generally bend over backwards to attend to your every whim – makes for a unique and rather special stay.”

Tigerlily

“The buzzy Tigerlily hotel gets you close to the action thanks to its excellent location in the centre of the New Town and will suit anyone who’s up for a fun, up-tempo Edinburgh experience. Situated on George Street, home to some of Edinburgh’s smartest bars, Tigerlily fits in with the glam, cosmopolitan vibe perfectly. Indeed the hotel bar is something of a cocktail hotspot in its own right, complete with huge mirrors, glitzy chandeliers and an exciting selection of modishly inventive drinks. The presence of Lola’s nightclub, a dance floor equipped club space in the basement, seals Tigerlily’s status as the city’s number one hotel if you’ve come to Edinburgh to party.”

So there we have it – Edinburgh’s top reviewed 4 hotels according to Hotel Direct.

A "do the bloomin' washing" chant!
I'm impressed at how square this... mulch(?) still is in the back of the truck. I'd have thought it would at least have succumbed to gravity and spilled forward! I guess @rbgedinburgh gardeners have advanced magicks!
This is what it looks like when @thebonnienook and @gingerbeardbakes team to to make a sunny Thursday even better.
I'm a fan of this modern and inclusive take on #leith 's Perserve motto.
I haven't finished @thebonningtonleith 's menu and there's a new one coming. In fact, the new food is on, the paperwork still needs updated. It is an update so I won't start again, I'll update and carry on!
I don't know what it is, but I like the hat and the dapper attitude of this character chilling at a Granton bus stop.
