Edinburgh’s Maki & Ramen launches weekly fundraiser for Thistle Foundation

October 23, 2025 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Local restaurant favourite Maki & Ramen has announced a new charitable partnership with the Thistle Foundation. This Edinburgh-based charity supports people living with disabilities and long-term health conditions.

Maki & Ramen

In a simple but effective initiative, the popular restaurant will donate £1 from every single bowl of ramen sold at its Edinburgh branches every Monday evening, between 4 pm and 8 pm. The restaurant has confirmed that this is at no extra cost to diners, as the donation is made directly from the price of the meal.

The Thistle Foundation, which operates across Scotland, is known for its person-centred model of support. The charity focuses on helping individuals regain confidence and live life to the fullest, rather than on their specific conditions. The support offered includes one-to-one personalised sessions, physical activity programmes, and lifestyle management courses.

This new partnership is already providing tangible results. Thistle reported that funds raised from Maki & Ramen’s sales in September alone have been enough to fund 20 places on its 10-week Lifestyle Management Course.

The charity shared the story of one recent participant, Jim, a veteran who had been struggling with PTSD and depression.

“The course gave me the confidence to manage my condition and structure my life,” Jim shared. “Instead of focusing on my PTSD, I began thinking about what matters to me: I got back into photography, started archaeology volunteering, and attending drama workshops… Before, I was very depressed, and now, even my sons have noticed that I’m taking more of an interest in my life.”

For a local business we’ve reviewed, it’s a positive move that transforms a simple bowl of ramen into a vehicle for direct community support.

Diners looking to support the initiative can visit any Maki & Ramen in Edinburgh on Mondays between 4 pm and 8 pm.
