Review: Explosive Science Show! Fringe 2025

August 15, 2025 by Guest Reviewer Leave a Comment

Explosive Science Show! delivers explosive science fun for the whole family – and anyone who’s ever been excited by the idea of a home chemistry set.

A high-energy host with a silly science vibe

Explosive science show Kaboom lives up to its name with a loud, silly, and high-energy approach to science that keeps kids grinning and adults quietly impressed. Hosted by an enthusiastic man from Australia, the show blends slapstick humour with genuine scientific demonstrations, making learning feel like a bit of a party.

The combination of quick-fire jokes, animated expressions, and dramatic pauses keeps the energy high from start to finish, ensuring the audience is engaged every step of the way.

Family-friendly fun for all ages

The tone is pure “mad scientist meets stand-up comic.” From the moment he bounds onto the stage, the host’s energy never dips. His mix of quick one-liners and exaggerated reactions turns what could have been dry, methodical science demonstrations into laugh out loud moments.

The atmosphere is light-hearted, very family friendly, and just chaotic enough to make you wonder if everything is going exactly as planned. My almost-four-year-old enjoyed the show from start to finish, sitting well and watching wide eyed at each colourful and noisy experiment.

The combination of visual spectacle and the performer’s boundless enthusiasm makes the show appealing to both children and adults.

Science experiments with a theatrical twist

Inside the theatre setting, the experiments are necessarily limited, but he makes the most of what’s possible. Fire tricks burst to life in quick flashes, while foaming reactions, including an impressive hydroxide nitrate display, spread across the stage in bubbly cascades.

The smell of certain reactions and the sight of clouds of vapour only add to the immersive experience. The visual appeal is undeniable, and the explanations, while kept simple, are clear enough for young minds to understand without losing the attention of older viewers.

Some seasoned science show fans might find the content slightly tamer compared to outdoor or laboratory settings, but the creativity in adapting these experiments for an indoor theatre is commendable.
