I think it’s hard to find a good Indian restaurant. I think it’s much harder to find a good Indian delivery restaurant. That’s why I’m pleased I found the Mint Indian on Just Eat.
I’ve passed by but never been inside the Mint Indian and yet I must have had several dozen dinners from them over the years. How? The site Just Eat.
Mint, based down in Portobello, works for me because it is consistently good and that seems to be the biggest challenge when it comes to delivery. The food is always hot, always fresh and always tasty. The thing to remember about a Just Eat order versus a Deliveroo order is that with the former it is the restaurant who is responsible for delivering the food. Experience shows that a great restaurant doesn’t necessarily mean great logistics on delivery.
As I said; Mint Indian is consistent with good food, hot and fresh but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t change. I’ll typically have the Chicken Tikka Tandoori Main and I’ve had a few versions of that from Mint. I guess it depends on the chef of the day and whether there’s been any revamps of the menu. I discovered recently that the wildcard is the chilli sauce you can have with it and it’s really a roll of the dice as to whether you get a thicker sauce or a smoother sauce. I don’t mind as both are good.
Other favourites include the Green Herb Chicken, Saag Aloo and their Garlic Naan. There’s lots to pick from on the delivery menu with the range divided into Popular, Starters, Tandoori dishes, specialities, traditional curries, seafood dishes, Biryani dishes, vegetarian sides and specials, rice, bread, sundries, desserts, drinks and even a set meal section.
The speed of deliver is good too. Just Eat gives you an estimate for how long it’ll take for your food to arrive. Mint is rarely late and often ahead of time. Take note; ahead of time isn’t always convenient as it can catch you out but apply some common sense and you won’t go too badly wrong. I’ve found the delivery drivers to be capable and polite – once even coming back to the flat door a second time because they’d forgotten a bottle of cola, which I’d also forgotten I’d ordered, to complete the delivery.
There is one catch. In Mint Indian’s profile on Just Eat there’s a note that an extra £2.50 cash charge may apply if the deliver has had to go beyond 5 miles. This isn’t great. I often order Just Eat because I don’t have any cash. I’ve had to use Google Maps to ensure that we’re not over that 5 mile radius. I don’t think there should be any hidden extras. Just Eat should either offer variable delivery prices based on distance travelled or Mint Indian should reduce their delivery window to a range acceptable to them.
