Running out of time to get Christmas gifts? I think movies, either on DVD or Blu-ray, can still reach you in time. The only risk with buying a movie as a gift for someone is that if they’re a big fan they’re likely to already have (or be getting) a copy. You know they’ve already seen the film too.
Soundtracks are different. I’ve seen the movie The Crow two or three times. In my youth I must have listened to the soundtrack two or three hundred times. It’s music from and inspired by the film. Music provokes that emotional response which can make for a perfect gift too.
Towards the end of this year Sony Music released the Urban Hymn official soundtrack. The movie wasn’t a big hit back in 2015 but it’s currently sitting with a very impressive 8.3/10 rating on IMDB. The film is set in the 2011 riots in the UK and follows Jamie (played by Letitie Wright) who is both a young offender and a talented singer.
The music is diverse to say the least! We begin with The Clash’s White Riot and end with Linden & Valentine, Renee Alleyne playing Mash Up the Dance.
The Urban Hymn Choir appears a few times with; Don’t Break My Heart, Sinking to the Bottom, Feel, Shining Shore and Reaction.
Technology being what it is we can provide a Spotify embed of the album. You don’t need a Spotify account to sample the music.
I think Urban Hymn, the official soundtrack, is a candidate for a clever and emotionally intelligent Christmas gift. The music is a powerful reminder of an expertly told tale.
